Established in 2019, Chaverim Melbourne is an independent, volunteer-run community organisation and a member of Interstate Chaverim. Our members carry useful equipment and may assist when it is safe and an available volunteer is able to respond.

Battery jump starts
Volunteer jump-start assistance for a flat vehicle battery using portable equipment, where the vehicle can be approached and assisted safely.
Vehicle lockout assistance
Help with some vehicle lockouts, subject to proof of authority, the vehicle type, safety considerations and available equipment.
Home lockout assistance
Practical help with some residential lockouts where identity and authority can be established. Licensed locksmith work should be handled by a qualified professional.
Emergency fuel
Limited emergency fuel support may be available to help a stranded motorist reach a nearby service station.
Overheated vehicle support
Basic, non-mechanical assistance around an overheated vehicle when it is safe to do so. Mechanical diagnosis and repairs require a qualified professional.
Roadside safety support
High-visibility apparel, lights and safety equipment can help make some roadside situations more visible while appropriate assistance is arranged.
Traffic assistance
Practical scene support may be provided where volunteers can assist without replacing police, emergency services or authorised traffic controllers.
Gas shut-off support
Basic support locating or operating an accessible gas shut-off may be possible. If gas is leaking or anyone is in danger, leave the area and call Triple Zero (000).
Community search support
Chaverim may assist recognised community and emergency organisations with organised searches and practical support when requested.
